Fox News reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told a group of mostly Hispanics at St. Anthony’s (Catholic) Church in San Francisco last Saturday that ICE (Immigration Control Enforcement) raids on employers “must be stopped … I think it is un-American … they must be stopped.”  ICE, a federal agency, enforces immigration laws. They also investigate employers who are suspected of hiring illegal immigrants. The agency also protects US citizens by enforcing  identity fraud statutes when pertaining to immigration control.

Addressing a crowd that Fox News said included both illegal and legal immigrants, Pelosi, the Democrat House leader said those in attendance were there “to take responsibility for our country’s future … that makes you very, very patriotic.”

House  Republican Congressman Steve King (Iowa) condemned Pelosi’s   speech saying that it does not reflect the views of the vast majority of Americans.

Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) went even further. Smith said on the house floor that “it is a spectacle to have the House Speaker of the US House of Representatives call the actions of our law enforcement men and women as ‘un-American’.”

Rep. Smith went on by saying (in a release) that “more than twelve and a half million US citizens and legal immigrant workers are looking for work.

And there are seven million illegal immigrants working in the US, according to the most recent Pew estimates.”

Smith responded to the San Francisco Democrat by saying: “Let’s let the American people decide what is ‘un-American.’ ”  Radio talk show host, Mark Levin, author of the newly released book Liberty & Tyranny, believes the Speaker ‘must be off her rocker’ by saying such outlandish remarks.
