An English (UK) news source reports that Tijuana’s murder rate for calendar year 2018 has exceeded 2,000 people. In early December the Chicago Tribune reported recently that the murder rate in Chicago, Illinois is currently at 552. Metropolitan reports tell us that the present population of Tijuana (Mexico) is 1.64 million residents while the city of Chicago has a population of 2.7 million people.
With the Tijuana murder rate exceeding Chicago by three times it seems logical to assume that this Mexico-U.S. border city is a dangerous place to be. Several years ago two local construction workers who used to regularly go surfing in Mexico told me not to visit beaches between south Tijuana and Ensenada. The reason: it’s not un-common for people who park their cars along the beach to be broken into. This is sad because I remember surfing down there when I was young.
The Presidents quest to build a wall is a logical one. Our federal and state governments have spent billions of dollars on infrastructure. Yet why are Democrat leaders refusing to support legislation to build a wall that will protect its citizens. It is still illegal to sneak into our country without officially being granted entrance by the U.S. government. It is also wrong for illegal aliens to live off the public, receiving government paid assistance.
With our national debt growing by over ½ million dollars every minute we cannot afford such hand-outs. Our government NEEDS to be responsible and protect its citizens from illegal entry (that includes arrivals of drug dealers, child smugglers and convicted criminals).
I realize that most of these illegal entrants are NOT criminals. Nevertheless these people are still actively breaking the law. Our government needs to do something to discourage this: namely- build the wall.
In 2016, one of the hallmark campaign promises of Donald J. Trump was to build a wall. The issue of building a wall is simply one of protecting our citizens and lowering the escalating cost of government (food stamps, low cost government housing and federal medical insurance which the government commonly gives to many of these people). The state of California even forces local hospitals and clinics to absorb most of the expense of non-citizens receiving aid at emergency wards.
Remarkably in my state (of California) if you are age illegal and pass the state’s drivers test you can be granted a CA driver’s license even if you are residing here illegally. What the CA politicians won’t tell you if that when these licenses and permits are granted (to those over 21) these same people are sent paperwork by the state to register them to vote.
So I urge you now or when you can please call your local representative (House of Representatives or U.S. Senate) and ask them to ‘build the wall’ under the new budget agreement. For your U.S. Senator go to: www.contactSenators.com and for your Congress member go to: www.house.gov/ for their contact information.
